In my opinion:
On October 13, 2007 Governor Arnold Shwarzeneggar signed AB 821 LEAD AMMO BAN/CONDOR BILL with no signing statement.
This bill will enact the Ridley-Tree Condor Preservation Act to require the use of nonlead centerfire rifle and pistol ammunition when taking big game and coyote within specified areas as I discussed in last months newsletter “those areas being hunting zone A South, excluding Santa Cruz, Alameda, Contra Costa, San Mateo, and San Joaquin Counties, areas west of Highway 101 within Santa Clara County, and areas between Highway 5 and Highway 99 within Stanislaus, Merced, Madera, Fresno, Kings, Tulare and Kern Counties, and within zones D7, D8, D9, D10, D11, and D13.”
So as the bill/Act reads will the State provide bullets for hunters at a reduced charge? Will the State choose to fund the program because remember the provision in the bill/Act reads “to the extent funding is available.” With our current State fiscal predicament you would think that our Governor would have embraced a money saving simple solution. A voluntary hunting practice would achieve the same goal and cost the State almost nothing. Have hunters remove the carcasses from the field and bury the "gut piles."
NEXT...
He also signed AB 1471 MICROSTAMPING with this signing statement.
“I am signing Assembly Bill 1471.
While I appreciate and understand that this technology is not without limitations, I am signing this bill to provide law enforcement with an additional tool for solving crimes committed with semi-automatic handguns in California.
Public safety is one of the most important roles of government and I encourage all stakeholders to work on improving this technology so that it may become an even more effective crime fighting tool.
Sincerely,
Arnold Schwarzenegger”
So with a stroke of a pen Governor Schwarzenegger signed into law two of the most nonsensical bills a politician could come up with. I guess I should be grateful that the legislation session has come to an end for this year.
I hope that a challenge to the Microstamping bill comes about because this bill is screaming to be heard in the count of law. How do you sign into law a bill where your own studies show that the technology isn’t ready and may never be ready.
In May of 2007 a study reports serious reliability problems with ID Dynamics' technology, concluding that Microstamping "...does not work well for all guns and ammunition tested in a pilot study by researchers from the forensic science program at UC Davis..." Tests were performed with ".22, .380 and .40-caliber handguns, two semi-automatic rifles and a pump-action shotgun." The study reports "a wide range of results depending on the weapon, the ammunition used and the type of code examined."
We now have a law that requires a technology that isn’t ready and won’t be any time soon. Not to mention how easy it will be to defeat and another law that just creates another level of government intrusion on law-abiding citizens supported by junk science. Just great...
Just my opinion… Rob Charny

DOUG BECKER PLINK HI SCORER AGAIN!
Please Leave It NRA Klean loyalists hauled two giant loads of illegal dumping out of Your Eldorado National Forest again on Sat. Oct. 20, 2007. About one tenth of this filth was littered by shooters.
Taking the twisted up old car on Doug’s trailer may not have been a violation of the Historical Preservation Act, but driving around with a complete china toilet in the back of my truck was defiantly hysterical, although my wife did not think it was funny that I brought it home.
We had a great campfire from (mostly unpainted) target wood that Jim Holtzman cut up. Stan Cartwright, Marian Garrio, and Simon Russell stayed in that place to shoot and make sure the fire was safe. Jim went on to shoot at a 100 Yard place.
The Forest Service issued Gary Stone a back pack pump to make our demolition generator legal, and MRE’s (Meals Rejected by Everyone) for our emergency use. Ray Engler took a mess of cardboard boxes to the recycle bin from the same place we picked them up from before in the middle of nowhere. Donn Nibblett explained where the old gold mine was. Al Morrow hinted at how much he invested in the El Dorado Hills Friends of NRA Dinner. Richard Maynard and everybody pitched in and got ‘er done without any fuss except for two slightly cut hands loading that smashed up car. Not satisfied with the above Phil Weideman, Ed Dunn, David Hawkins and I drug another abandoned car down a recently reopened road. We could not tell why this was not done when the heavy equipment was in there, but we did recruit some new help by explaining to a group that hanging targets on a tree will cost them one trip to The U.S. Magistrate in Lake Tahoe to pay a hefty fine, or two trips if they would like to come back for a trial.
If you see any of these hero’s – thank them. If you do some of this yourself to preserve our shooting areas – let us thank you.

General Meeting October 2007
|
|
Candidates for Supervisor District II spoke to a group of club members at our October 2007 general meeting. It was a good way for members and candidates to get to know each other and to discuss issues concerning the club and operation of the county. Harry Dean, George Turnboo & Ray Nutting (Kevin Brown was invited, he accepted the invitation but did not attend) addressed the members and answered some difficult question. We look forward to having another candidate’s night in 2008. Remember that sportsmen represent one of America's most powerful voting blocks. Vote your Sport and support the candidate that most represents your views.
The El Dorado Rod & Gun Club. Inc., does not endorse any candidate running for public office.

Please save those pellet stove plastic bags for raking up spent cartridges and shot shells at PLINK areas, and Gun Club shooting ranges. They fit perfectly in 5 gallon paint buckets, and are easier to lift than big black trash bags that usually burst open.
Just leave them at the range, or email NRAPLINK@COMCAST.NET FOR PICK UP.
