Presidents report:
Just my opinion...
Last month the city of Sacramento passed two new gun control laws aimed to make us all safer. One law would give gun owners 48 hours to report a lost or stolen firearm or be charged with a misdemeanor, while the other would require firearms dealers to thumb-print and electronically report the names and addresses of those who buy ammunition. The idea of ammunition reporting is nothing new, the federal Gun Control Act of 1968 required ammo purchasers to provide identification and sign a log but was suspended in 1986. Similar laws are in effect in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Oakland. But whether they reduce gun violence is unknown or not reported.
There was no report on how the city was going to provide funding for manpower, software and logistics or who is going to be responsible for keeping the records. Just what I want more ways for ID thieves to get my personal information and would it surprise you to see a new tax being passed along to gun owners to pay for these new laws? Not me, all these new laws will do is hurt the small businesses in the city limits that sell firearms and ammunition. Will the county of Sacramento be far behind with their version of these misguided laws? I hope not but at the state level we are facing similar laws so make sure to keep a watchful eye open.
I find it interesting that Sacramento Police Chief Albert Nájera was supporting these new laws as the County Sheriff's Department is reporting a nearly 60 percent drop in overall crime and Sacramento police also show an overall 4 percent drop in crimes, with major declines - more than 37 percent - in homicides, as reported in the Sacramento Bee. Personally I find the numbers encouraging if I’m to believe the statistics. “Do not put your faith in what statistics say until you have carefully considered what they do not say.” ~ William W. Watt
The anti-gunners will always find a way to turn statistics around, how about this one – “Sacramento police say only a sixth of guns used to commit crimes were obtained legally,” – duh what? Where in the world did they come up with this one? I don’t know about you, but I look at every set of statistics with a grain of salt. But I’m no different than most and sometimes I’m willing to believe reported numbers depending on where the numbers are coming from. This coming from my mistrust of uber-liberal press and how they report statistics and my willingness to believe more conservative organizations and their reporting.
In my opinion these new laws are unenforceable and are aimed at law abiding gun owners only. After all those people that possess firearms illegally won’t be the people abiding by gun laws let alone new laws. Enforce the current laws we all ready have and not keep throwing more burdensome laws at law abiding firearm owners.
Just my opinion - Rob Charny
More to come from the state- AB 334 MANDATORY LOSS/THEFT REPORTING (Levine) and AB 362 AMMO SALES REQUIREMENTS (De Leon) are pending at the state level. I encourage you to contact your representatives and encourage them to defeat these bills. You can find out the latest information on pending bills by going to: http://www.eldoradorodandgun.com/legislation.htm

If you have been receiving the club eNews for some time you might notice that this newsletter looks a little different. We have made a number of enhancements. We redesigned the look of the eNews and changed the way we handle our mailing roster and send out our newsletter. We have gone with a hosting solution called Email Brain (yeah I know, funny name) that allows us to track delivery of our newsletters, better handle bounced email, allow online newsletter subscribe, unsubscribe, forward and profile update. This also allows us to have an online subscriber link. I hope you enjoy the new look and again thank you for your support of the El Dorado Rod & Gun Club. |

A cooperative project of the El Dorado NRA ILA Members Council, the El Dorado Rod & Gun Club, the National Rifle Association, and the US Department of Agriculture, Forest Service.
P.L.I.N.K. recognized for all of the hard work:
On June 4, 2007 Steve Morgan our P.L.I.N.K. leader received this letter from the United States Department of the Interior.
Dear Mr. Morgan,
Take Pride in America continues to work diligently to promote national volunteerism and stewardship of public lands. The fruit of this labor is the honor of recognizing such outstanding individuals as yourself for your exceptional dedication. This year, your efforts were noticed and nominated for the 2007 Take Pride National Award. We were thrilled to receive word of yours and so many outstanding volunteer efforts across the country.
Though your were not selected as a National Award winner for 2007, it does not diminish the profound impact your contributions have made on our public lands. I would like to recognize your commitment to the improvement and enhancement of our public lands with a Take Pride Appreciation Certificate (pictured). I hope it demonstrates our sincere appreciation for your continued selflessness.
You have accomplished much in the past year; your achievements have not gone unnoticed. Please continue to exemplify our motto: “It’s your land, lend a hand!”
Sincerely,
Heather Roebke
Executive Director

Labor Day 2007
|
|
SEPTEMBER 3
"The day for which the toilers in past centuries looked forward, when their rights and their wrongs would be discussed ... that the workers of our day may not only lay down their tools of labor for a holiday, but upon which they may touch shoulders in marching phalanx and feel the stronger for it."
These are the words and vision of Labor Day spoken by Samuel Gompers, the first president of the American Federation of Labor. Now, more than 100 years later, Labor Day is celebrated as the last long weekend of summer rather than a day for political organizing. In the early 1950s, 40 percent of all American workers belonged to a union. According to the Department of Labor, that number has dwindled to less than 15 percent today.
The Central Labor Union of New York sponsored the first Labor Day parade on Sept. 5, 1882, in which more than 10,000 people marched. The movement gathered momentum, and in 1894 President Grover Cleveland signed a bill to make Labor Day a national holiday.
