eNews March 2008
Presidents Report:
Many of us travel to different ranges and gun clubs throughout the year to shoot different events or registered shoot. In February The El Dorado Rod & Gun Club once again made a showing of our shooting prowess at the Livermore-Pleasanton Rod & Gun Club PITA three day registered trap shoot. Larry Carsten, Don & Jim Firanzi, Peter Henschel, Karen Beckman, (even me!) Rob Charny all won their respective class during one of the three days shooting against hundreds of other shooters. Great job guys!

I forgot to thank Rico Oller in last month’s eNews for attending our annual banquet. Rico has always been a big supporter of our club. Good to see you Rico and thank you again for all your support.

A big thank you to Von McNew for the great job he did on the rifle rests he built. They look great and work even better.

BUDGET REQUESTS FOR 2008 DUE NOW!
R.S.O. and committee chairman should turn in any requests for items to be included in next year’s budget to Bob Conover, Keith Murray or Rob Charny by the Board of Directors meeting in March. Members with any special projects should submit them by the same time. The Budget for 2008 will be finalized at the board meeting in March.

El Dorado Rod & Gun Club Gun of the Year!  Only a limited number of tickets will be sold for this outstanding shotgun.
Browning 425 American Sporter Gold comes with a Grade IV engraving pattern on a "coin finish" receiver. The receiver features exquisite images of pheasant, duck and quail enhanced in gold relief.

Donated by Yubacon, Inc./ Only 500 tickets will be sold and once we sell all 500 we will draw for the winner. All Proceeds go to the club for road and trap range maintenance.
The dark American walnut stock has satin oil finished that enhances the fine grain of the high grade wood.  The 12 Gauge stock has a palm swell as well this is a great opportunity to own a fine American Sporter Over/Under 12Ga shotgun.

Range News:

As most of you know our ranges are run by volunteer range safety officers. We are fortunate to have a very dedicated group of members willing to spend their time running the facility. Next time you’re out at the range make sure to thank the RSO for their dedication and hard work.

In 2008 we will see a few changes to the range calendar. The most visible change will be to the rifle / pistol range on Mondays. In our continuing effort to support Law Enforcement we have agreed to share the lower range with EDSO on two Mondays a month. This means that Law Enforcement will have exclusive use of the lower range (rifle/pistol range) on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month and the club will have exclusive use of the lower range on the 2nd, 4th and the few 5th Mondays.

Make sure to check the club calendar before you travel to the range to make sure that it will be available for you to use when you arrive there.

Renew your 2008 Membership today. Now is the time to renew your membership or become a member. Visit the club’s web site for more information and to join online.

P.L.I.N.K report:
PLINK
A cooperative project of the El Dorado NRA ILA Members Council, the El Dorado Rod & Gun Club, the National Rifle Association, and the US Department of Agriculture, Forest Service.

Twelve Hardcore Volunteers came out on a very miserable day. Tony Zepczyk. Donn Nibblett, and Doug Riccarelli (sp ?) dug out the ditch from the Pistol Range to the Chronograph table. We will be back with a Jack Hammer to finish that. Si Russell, Michael Eribes de Flores, Richard Maynard, Jake Erlich, Phil Weidman, and Gary Stone, chopped Becker's new furring strip target holders into the mud on the left side of the fifty yard line. If you say that works good we need to get a deal on a mess of 4 by 4 inch angle iron. Doug Becker cut and hauled some of the Digger Pine reproduction threatening our power lines. Ed ________ forgot his lunch box. It was empty so I boiled some sausage dogs. We burned some lumber scraps to stop our teeth from chattering. To comment or get involved in keeping our ranges in shape please yell at; Steve Morgan (530) 620-3946, or email nraplink@comcast.net

We had so much fun in the rain this week that we are going to try again to finish cleaning out the drainage ditches along the El Dorado Rod & Gun Club road, and some other distasteful chores from 9 am until 1 pm this coming Friday Feb. 29. Bring your wheelbarrow, shovel, rock rake, sun screen, and something to test free targets with after our Please Leave It NRA Klean PLINK financed primitive lunches. Please let me know if you will help so I know how many to cook for or if you are on light duty you can boil my wieners and put me to work. Steve

Political Correctness / In memory of WWII

Subject: Political Correctness

The following is the 2007 winning entry from an annual contest at Texas A&M University calling for the most appropriate definition of a contemporary term.

This year’s term: .....Political Correctness;.....Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end!

This eMail was sent by a Pearl Harbor Vet and I believe it’s important to pass this along to as many people as possible.

In Memory of WWII

It is a matter of history that when Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces, General Dwight  Eisenhower, found the victims of the death camps he ordered all possible photographs to be taken, and for the German people from surrounding villages to be ushered through the camps and even made to bury the dead. He did this because he said in words to this effect: 'Get it all on record now - get the films - get the witnesses - because somewhere down the track of history some bastard will get up and say that this never happened' All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.'

Edmund Burke

In Memorial

This week, the UK removed The Holocaust from its school curriculum because it 'offended' the Muslim population which claims it never occurred. This is a frightening portent of the fear that is gripping the world and how easily each country is giving into it.

It is now more than 60 years after the Second World War in Europe ended. This email (message) is being sent as a memorial chain, in memory of the Six million Jews, 20 million Russians, 10 million Christians, and 1,900 Catholic priests, who were murdered, massacred, raped, burned, starved and humiliated while the German and Russian peoples looked the other way!

Now, more than ever, with Iran, among others, claiming the Holocaust to be 'a myth,' it is imperative to make sure the world never forgets.

This e-mail (message) is intended to reach 40 million people worldwide!

Be a link in the memorial chain and help distribute this around the world. How many years will it be before the attack on the World Trade Center 'never happened' because it offends some Muslim in the U.S.?

Help Clean Up the Range

In order to keep our costs down many of you are getting the newsletter via eMail. I encourage you to use this way of receiving the newsletter and calendar to help make sure that we keep the cost of running the club as low as possible. If you change your eMail address please let us know so that there won’t be any disruption in receiving the eNews. Please feel free to send this eNews to friends and family, just click on the link forward at the bottom of the page.

Please save those pellet stove plastic bags for raking up spent cartridges and shot shells at PLINK areas, and Gun Club shooting ranges.  They fit perfectly in 5 gallon paint buckets, and are easier to lift than big black trash bags that usually burst open.

Just leave them at the range, or email NRAPLINK@COMCAST.NET  FOR PICK UP.
