Individual Right to Bear Arms Wins Favor in Supreme Court Argument:
The Supreme Court on March 18, 2008 considered the landmark Second Amendment
case D.C. v. Heller, Justice Kennedy was quick to lay bare his view on the scope
of the right to bear arms contained in the amendment. The first part, he said,
was meant to reaffirm "the existence and the importance" of the treatment of
state militias contained in the Constitution itself. The second part, he
asserted, means that "in addition" there is a right to bear arms, which he later
declared was a "general right." To read more

Attention all RSO (Range Safety Officers), Club Directors and Officers.
On Monday April 21, 2008, 5:30 PM, at the club house we are holding our Board of
Directors and RSO meeting and it is essential that you attend. We will be going
over general club business and range operations. We will also have a BBQ dinner
so that no one goes hungry during this meeting and gives us some time to
socialize. It is very important that you attend this meeting. Those RSO who do
not attend jeopardize their authorization to continue as Range Safety Officers.
If you cannot attend this meeting please let me know by sending me an eMail
(president@eldoradorodandgun.com), or phone call (530-621-1509). If you do not
show up at the meeting, call or send an eMail I will assume that you no longer
wish to be an RSO and will be removed from the list of active Range Safety
Officers.

Trailer Shipment of Targets Arrive!
The trap range received our annual shipment of targets and a BIG thank you
to all of the volunteers who helped get them into our conex container. Thank
you goes to: Larry Ward, Larry Carsten, Bill Pease, Dave Shull, Doug Becker,
Randy Shelton, John Huntsman and Bob Howard. They loaded 1,512 cases of
targets into the container. So if you're counting that's 204,120 targets!

As most of you know our ranges are run by volunteer range safety officers.
We are fortunate to have a very dedicated group of members willing to spend
their time running the facility. Next time you’re out at the range make sure
to thank the RSO for their dedication and hard work.
In 2008 we will see a few changes to the range calendar. The most visible
change will be to the rifle / pistol range on Mondays. In our continuing
effort to support Law Enforcement we have agreed to share the lower range
with EDSO on two Mondays a month. This means that Law Enforcement will have
exclusive use of the lower range (rifle/pistol range) on the 1st and 3rd
Mondays of each month and the club will have exclusive use of the lower
range on the 2nd, 4th and the few 5th Mondays.
Make sure to check the club calendar before you travel to the range to make
sure that it will be available for you to use when you arrive there.

Opp's, I fell for an Urban Legend!
|
Range Calendar |
|
The information in last months newsletter about all schools in the UK not
teaching about the holocaust for fear of offending Muslim students turns out to
be an urban legend. Thanks to Jack Tonkin for bringing it to my attention.
However as reported on Snopes.Com there is one history department in a northern
UK city that stopped teaching about the Holocaust because it wished to avoid
confronting anti-Semitic sentiment and Holocaust denial among some Muslim
pupils. History revisionists will always be with us.
So even a web savvy person can be taken in if the story seems to fit.

Tips for Handling Telemarketers
|
Three Little Words That Work !!
(1)The three little words are: ‘Hold On, Please... Saying this, while
putting down your phone and walking off (instead of hanging-up immediately)
would make each telemarketing call so much more time-consuming that boiler room
sales would grind to a halt. Then when you eventually hear the phone company's
'beep-beep-beep' tone, you know it’s time to go back and hang up your handset,
which has efficiently completed its task. These three little words will help
eliminate telephone soliciting.
(2) Do
you ever get those annoying phone calls with no one on the other end?
This is a telemarketing technique where a machine makes phone calls and records
the time of day when a person answers the phone. This technique is used to
determine the best time of day for a 'real' sales person to call back and get
someone at home. What you can do after answering, if you notice there is no one
there, is to immediately start hitting your # button on the phone, 6 or 7 times,
as quickly as possible This confuses the machine that dialed the call and it
kicks your number out of their system. Gosh, what a shame not to have your name
in their system any longer !!!
(3) Junk
Mail Help: When you get 'ads' enclosed with your phone or utility
bill, return these ‘ads’ with your payment. Let the sending companies throw
their own junk mail away. When you get those 'pre-approved' letters in the mail
for everything from credit cards to 2nd mortgages and similar type junk, do not
throw away the return envelope. Most of these come with postage-paid return
envelopes, right? It costs them more than the regular 41 cents postage 'IF' and
when they receive them back. It costs them nothing if you throw them away! The
postage was around 50 cents before the last increase and it is according to the
weight. In that case, why not get rid of some of your other junk mail and put it
in these cool little, postage-paid return envelopes.
One of Andy Rooney's (60 minutes) ideas. Send an ad for your local
chimney cleaner to American Express. Send a pizza coupon to Citibank. If you
didn't get anything else that day, then just send them their blank application
back! If you want to remain anonymous, just make sure your name isn't on
anything you send them. You can even send the envelope back empty if you want to
just to keep them guessing! It still costs them 41 cents. The banks and credit
card companies are currently getting a lot of their own junk back in the mail,
but folks, we need to OVERWHELM them. Let's let them know what it's like to get
lots of junk mail, and best of all they’re paying for it...Twice!
Let's
help keep our postal service busy since they are saying that e-mail is cutting
into their business profits, and that's why they need to increase postage costs
again You get the idea !

Please save those pellet stove plastic bags for raking up spent cartridges and
shot shells at PLINK areas, and Gun Club shooting ranges. They fit perfectly in
5 gallon paint buckets, and are easier to lift than big black trash bags that
usually burst open.
Just leave them at the range, or email
NRAPLINK@COMCAST.NET FOR PICK UP.
