No General Meeting in May, hope to see you all in June. The Board of Directors is giving consideration to changing the general meetings to 4 meetings a year. Do you have an opinion? Should we have meetings every month? Every other month? 4 times a year? Let me know what you think. Take a good look at our calendar and I think you will be impressed at the schedule of activities we have lined up. There is something for everyone this month and throughout the year. Range News:
As most of you know our ranges are run by volunteer range safety officers. We are fortunate to have a very dedicated group of members willing to spend their time running the facility. Next time you’re out at the range make sure to thank the RSO for their dedication and hard work.
This year we will see a few changes to the range calendar. The most visible change will be to the rifle / pistol range on Mondays. In our continuing effort to support Law Enforcement we have agreed to share the lower range with EDSO on two Mondays a month. This means that Law Enforcement will have exclusive use of the lower range (rifle/pistol range) on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month and the club will have exclusive use of the lower range on the 2nd, 4th and the few 5th Mondays.
Make sure to check the club calendar before you travel to the range to make sure that it will be available for you to use when you arrive there.

From Tim Todd: Lets all use the so-called stimulus package money that we get from the government to buy ammunition, should really piss off the anti-gunners, but help the merchants.

A cooperative project of the El Dorado NRA ILA Members Council, the El Dorado Rod & Gun Club, the National Rifle Association, and the US Department of Agriculture, Forest Service. Next PLINK adventure will be May 17, 2008. Meet at the Pollock Pines Safeway 9am.
THE DIRTY DOZEN Sawyers Doug Becker, Larry Carsten and Phil Weidman cut the brush back to protect the trap storage containers from fire. Choker Setters Richard Maynard, Donn Nibblett, and David Hawkins waded through the snake traps so Doug, Phil and Si Russell could tow the giant Manzanita that had been bulldozed over the bank back up for burning. Kiwi David Verry, Ed Dunn, and every body did a lot of brush dragging. Jake Erlich cut the branches we could not reach with his power pole saw. Doug and Jake cut and hauled some beautiful BBQ wood. Not content with the mess that we made some of us went back the next day for more. Some heavy duty pick and shovel work was done to install the new "invisible" target holders at the 50 yard rifle berm. I am not going to single out exactly who to thank for that in case some do not like it.
They are welcome to rebuild the old upright target frames after we burn the shot up one. If you like it, thank these guys, or join us next time and learn why Jake said he does this work for his mental health. Our cook Ray Engler put up a new magnetic dry erase pistol bulletin board. I forgot the mayonnaise and mustard.
Clean one gallon milk jugs full of water are needed for refilling the pistol hand washing barrel. This was our last scheduled Please Leave It NRA Klean PLINK crew work party at our range. We are anxious to get out in our National Forest to clean up some places that need help. To comment or get involved in keeping our ranges in shape please yell at; Steve Morgan (530) 620-3946, or email nraplink@comcast.net |

Another Range Bite's the Dust! - Gun Owners Own Worst Enemy... | U.S. DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR BUREAU OF LAND MANAGEMENT California News Release For Release: April 15, 2008 Contact: BLM: Jeff Fontana (530) 252-5332 or Rich Burns (707) 468-4000 CA-N-08-41
Pistol Range to Close at Knoxville Recreation Area The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has announced it is closing a six-acre pistol target shooting range in the Knoxville Recreation Area, which lies in parts of Napa, Lake and Yolo counties, because of increasing concerns about public safety. With this closure, shooting will be allowed only for hunting during seasons regulated by the state of California in the 24,000-acre BLM recreation area. Target shooting and random shooting or "plinking" will not be allowed. BLM Ukiah Field Manager Rich Burns said the restriction is effective immediately and signs are being posted onsite. The range had been the only part of the Knoxville Recreation Area designated by the BLM for target shooting. "Restricting target shooting at Knoxville was a difficult decision," Burns said, "but we must address public safety concerns to ensure that Knoxville can be safe and enjoyable for all visitors." Burns said the BLM will continue working with county governments and other interests in attempts to find a site in or near the Knoxville Recreation Area that can accommodate safe target shooting. The official shooting restriction notice will be published in the Federal Register. The closure order is under the authority of 43 Code of Federal Regulations 8364.1, which includes penalties for violations, including fines and jail sentences. The order can be obtained by contacting the Ukiah Field Office, (707) 468-4000, or online at http://www.blm.gov/ca/st/en/fo/ukiah.html The Knoxville Recreation Area offers about 50 miles of roads and trails for off-roading enthusiasts. It also offers a developed campground and three undeveloped camping areas. The area is also used by scientists studying plants that thrive in Knoxville’s unique soils. Information is available online at the same address or by phoning the Ukiah Field Office. -BLM- Ukiah Field Office 2550 North State St. Ukiah, CA 95482
Keith Murray ask a friend of his about this closure and here is his very candid statement about why this area was closed. It's too bad there wasn't a P.L.I.N.K. group to help clean up this area before it was closed. "The area is a remote one and there was was so much vandalism caused by the so called shooters that they were hauling out a truck load of trash every week. Guys were going up there and parting all knight and shooting the place up and there was a concern that someone would get injured or killed.
The guy that runs the BLM is not against hunting or shooting. As a matter of fact he has taken Terry and me around to show us their burn program on Cow Mt. Its just a case where our stupid gun owners not target shooters had done it to us." ~ Dan Stahlman
