As most of you know our ranges are run by volunteer range safety officers. We are fortunate to have a very dedicated group of members willing to spend their time running the facility. Next time you’re out at the range make sure to thank the RSO for their dedication and hard work.

President’s Report
Have you ever been victim of your own creativity? It seems that because I have been able to produce a newsletter every month since October 2001 I have created a monster. The “must produce a newsletter” monster sometimes bites me and this month it got me good. I have spent the last week at the Pacific International Trapshooting Association California State Championships. Not only shooting the event but being the “official” photographer and webmaster too. Way too much work and I only now have finished working on the photo’s and web site. Now I’m trying to figure out what to say in a newsletter, here is the quick and dirty.
President Obama has nominated a very anti Second Amendment Supreme Court appointee in Judge Sonia Sotomayor. It doesn’t take long to figure out where she stands. According to Judge Sotomayor, if your state or city bans all guns the way Washington, D.C. did, that’s okay under the Constitution. Here we go again, and this might be (more than likely, unfortunately) our next justice hearing an argument before the high court. Judge Sotomayor has put in writing what she thinks. President Obama has nominated a radically anti-Second Amendment judge to be our newest Supreme Court justice. Let’s all get involved in this one, call, write, support the NRA and other firearm related organizations, do whatever it takes to try to persuade our representatives that supporting this appointment is anything but a good idea.
Gun and ammo sales have been brisk to say the least because gun owners believe that “liberal” legislators are going to pass more legislation that impedes their right to own firearms and ammunition. This has caused hording of ammo and components the likes we have never seen before. A good friend of mine is a product manager for ATK the makers of CCI, Federal, Estate, Alliant ammo, primers and powder. He tells me that their factories are working around the clock to produce product for this market but it is their opinion that shortages will continue for at least 6 to 8 months if not longer.
Let’s not all panic, but be prudent in our purchases. Don’t get crazy and pay 100 times or more for our components than what we have been paying. There will be profit takers that will take advantage of this but don’t be fooled into purchasing high priced products just because you’re worried that you won’t be able to get what you want. It will turn around and again let’s keep the pressure on our representatives.
I always worry about stating statistics for fear that it is entirely incorrect, but if this is even remotely correct it’s still interesting. Worrisome but interesting none the less. Doctors:
(A) The number of physicians in the U.S. . is 700,000.
(B) Accidental deaths caused by Physicians per year are 120,000.
(C) Accidental deaths per physician is 0.171.
Statistics courtesy of U.S. Dept of Health and Human Services.
Now think about this:
Guns:
(A) The number of gun owners in the U.S. is 80,000,000.
(Yes, that's 80 million)
(B) The number of accidental gun deaths per year, all age groups, is 1,500.
(C) The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is .000188. Statistics courtesy of FBI
So, statistically, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners.
Remember, 'Guns don't kill people, doctors do..'
FACT: NOT EVERYONE HAS A GUN, BUT ALMOST EVERYONE HAS AT LEAST ONE DOCTOR..
Please alert your friends to this alarming threat. We must ban doctors before this gets completely out of hand!!!!!
Out of concern for the public at large, I withheld the statistics on lawyers for fear the shock would cause people to panic and seek medical help.
California legislation: Always check The NRA Members' Councils of California web page for up-to-date informaion. http://www.calnra.com/legs.shtml Enforce the laws that we already have, don’t accept more legislation imposed on the back of honest gun owners, and don’t compromise with your second amendment rights.
Just my opinion, Rob Charny

A FOUR RING PLINK and FOE CIRCUS
Our May 17 first Please Leave It NRA Klean expedition opened with 39 gung ho volunteers from PLINK and the Friends Of Eldorado
group that has been working so hard to keep our National Forest roads and trails open for all. Kurt Schneider, Lisa, Alfred, Zach, Analise, & Collin Heck, Eric & Jen Lillund, Jerry Reffner, Scott L. Darr, led by Rick Ferdon, and District Ranger Duane Nelson cleaned up uncounted tons of illegal dumping and three abandoned cars off of Fore Bay Road. Their dump bill was only $ 20.58 because a few of them went out the day before to utilize a free Pollock Pines community bin for some recliners and appliances. Rick hauled another giant load to his business in DUBLIN. He will saw up a truck load of old one inch logging cable to sell for FOE’s kitty.
Meanwhile Phil Weidman guided, Doug & Jarrett Becker, Jake Erlich, Gary Stone, Paul Lockyer, Douglas Ricciarelli, Tony Zepczyk, into a huge mess off of Plum Creek where camping trailers have been stripped down so they can be made into utility haulers. Doug took a double load to the dump, Ricciarelli another, and SPI Patrol Mike McKeand a third. We still need to go back and get about three big loads of paneling and mattresses.
At the same time Steve, Martha Lucia & Christine Swars, Ed Dunn, Si Russell, Michael Eribes de Flores, Ray Engler, Robert Dunnett, Steve Mason, Rocky Charboneau, Cris Tarantello, and David Hawkins raked and bagged a truck load of litter that Ray took to the dump. Small trees and brush blocking a safer backstop near the Blue Gouge Mill Site was cleared and stacked after two Forest Service workers suffered the sounds of bullets impacting within 20 feet of them from some one shooting over the Cyanide berm.
Gary and Cathy Morgan, Heidi Youngquist from Pine Grove, and some unattached shooters cleaned up two places in Bonnetti. They were not very messy because the people we show where to shoot take care of them by themselves which is the basic purpose of PLINK. Donn Nibblett and the rest of us from Blue Gouge caught up with them for lunch in the shade on this hottest day of 2009.
