As most of you know our ranges are run by volunteer range safety officers. We are fortunate to have a very dedicated group of members willing to spend their time running the facility. Next time you’re out at the range make sure to thank the RSO for their dedication and hard work.

President’s Report
Our annual Picnic was a great success and the largest
turnout we have ever had for our picnic. Thank you to everyone who attended,
helped and donated prizes. It was great to see everyone at our family event. A
big thank you goes to; Keith Murray, Doug Becker, Bob Howard, Ray Engler, Bob Conover,
Letty Baumgardner, Bob Hancock, Howard Holzer, Dave Smythe, and anyone I may
have forgotten for all the hard work.
We have two very important dates coming up that need your
attention. As you may know the CCW issue
(Carry Concealed Weapon) with regards to permits issued by the El Dorado County
Sheriff’s Department has been a major topic of discussion with gun owners.
There was a change of policy within the
Sheriff’s department on the handling of the issuance and renewals of permits
this year which upset many of you. It is my contention that permits should be
available to any law abiding citizen who wishes to have one as long as they
have a clean record and have completed the recommended course of education and
range qualification.
Our current sheriff
(whom by the way I consider a friend and a supporter of the El Dorado Rod &
Gun Club) has decided to go above and beyond this opinion and require anyone
applying for a renewal of their permit to once again justify their reason for
asking for the renewal, submitting three letters of good moral character,
having the firearms that they have on their permit be registered to the issuer
(which goes beyond state requirements), you and your spouse can no longer have
the same firearms listed on the permits
and places restrictions on your CCW as to the locations that you can
carry your firearm (school grounds is one, and you might say well that sounds reasonable
however if you consider that a few legally armed citizens many have prevented
the rampages that have taken place on schools grounds this restriction doesn’t
sound so wise.)
Now is the time we need your support in favor if CCW permits
and the ease of obtaining such permits. August 25, 2009 9am the El Dorado
County Board of Supervisors will be hearing a resolution for support of the
issuing of CCW permits by the Sheriff of El Dorado County. Here is a draft of the resolution.
Please plan on attending the BOS meeting held
at the Board of Supervisors chambers in Placerville August 25, 2009 - 9am.
Second, there will be a candidate’s forum for Sheriff held
at the Placerville Fair Grounds on Thursday August 27 at 6pm. We need to have a voice on the election of Sheriff and
there is no better time than Thursday August 27 to hear where the Sheriff
candidates stand on the Second Amendment and the issuing of CCW permits.
Please plan on attending these very important meeting.
California legislation: Always check The NRA Members' Councils of California web page for up-to-date informaion. http://www.calnra.com/legs.shtml Enforce the laws that we already have, don’t accept more legislation imposed on the back of honest gun owners, and don’t compromise with your second amendment rights.
Just my opinion, Rob Charny
